In the spring of 2004 the government implemented the new safety changes to the hot water tanks. The manufactures redesigned the hot water tanks to meet the new safety standards however with these changes, along came baggage with the change. All hot water tanks after 2004 need maintenance.
The new hot water tanks have safeties installed in the bottom of the tanks where the burners are located and there are fresh air vents in the bottom section of the hot water tanks, if those sections aren’t cleaned yearly there is a good chance that the hot water tank will overheat these safety devices rendering your hot water tank useless.
Have your hot water tank maintained yearly along with your furnace or boiler.
