There are plenty of reasons to keep repairing an older furnace — and there are clear signs that it’s time to move on. If you’re on the fence, here are 10 reasons a new furnace might be the right call this year.
- Energy savings add up fast. If your furnace is 15–20 years old, it may be running at 55–65% efficiency. Replacing it with a 95% AFUE furnace means 30–40% less gas to produce the same heat. In Chicago’s winters, that math is significant.
- Financing is available. We offer financing through Wells Fargo and Synchrony for qualified customers. Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas also have programs for high-efficiency equipment. You don’t have to pay for a new furnace out of pocket.
- Efficiency standards are changing. EPA and DOE efficiency requirements for residential furnaces continue to increase. Getting ahead of the changes means more available options and better pricing today.
- Lower carbon footprint. Higher efficiency means less natural gas burned. If environmental impact matters to you, a 95% furnace is a meaningful step down in emissions compared to an old 60% unit.
- Your home may have changed. Finished basements, added rooms, upgraded insulation, new windows — all of these change the heating load. If your home is different than it was when the original furnace was sized, the system may no longer be matched correctly.
- New furnaces are quieter. Variable-speed blower motors and improved cabinet insulation on modern furnaces are noticeably quieter than equipment from 15+ years ago.
- Resale value. A new high-efficiency furnace is a concrete selling point. Buyers notice it, and it reduces the negotiating ammunition for lowball offers based on aging mechanicals.
- Your warranty may be expired. Most furnace warranties run 10–20 years on the heat exchanger and 5–10 years on parts. If yours has expired, every repair is full cost — and repairs on an aging system often cost more than they’re worth.
- Peace of mind. A furnace over 20 years old is a failure waiting to happen. Knowing it could go down in the middle of February — when service demand peaks and wait times are longest — is a genuine quality-of-life issue. A new furnace eliminates that uncertainty.
- You deserve a system that works. Comfort in your home during a Chicago winter isn’t a luxury. If your furnace is struggling to keep up, a properly sized, efficient replacement will heat your home better than the old unit ever did.
